Munetada Tajima has just unknowingly enjoyed his last evening meal. As he strolls by the riverside in thought, a strange man known to the public as a street killer stands in his way and challenges him to a duel. Tajima remarks, confidently, that he %u201Ccould use a little after-dinner exercise,%u201D and charges the street killer, who will come to be known as, Shouryuu. Shouryuu parries Tajima's attack with a wave of ki channeled through his sword. At first, Tajima is puzzled as to why the man is no longer attacking. But a moment later, he starts to hemorrhage blood out of his face and collapses into the river. As the trio wanders into town, they meet a priest named Zuikou who puts them to work after giving them food and a place to stay at the monastery. Still, Mugen feels taken advantage of because of their circumstances and inadvertently knocks over a brass statue that destroys a wall and nearly lands on Jin. As Fuu heads into town to gather the repairs, she overhears a reward for the capture of the street killer that has been targeting people around the area and killing them. When she gets back, she tells Mugen and Jin of the street killer, which sparks Mugen to leave and find him for the reward.
